Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a direct cremation and a traditional funeral?
A direct cremation separates the celebration of life from the cremation. The cremation takes place without a minister or mourners attending the crematorium, and allows you and your family the freedom to celebrate your loved one at a time, place and venue of their choosing. We carry out this service in the same dignified, professional way as we would do for any funeral that we undertake. The simple nature of a direct cremation is reflected in the price.
Why is there an Island option and a Wessex direct cremation option?
Even though the cremations are unattended you may prefer for your loved one to be cremated on the island. However you may feel comfortable with the cremation taking place on the mainland. Mainland crematoriums offer far more competitive rates than the Isle of Wight. Since the cremation is unattended we want to pass on the savings to our families that mainland crematoriums can offer and give you choice.
What coffin is included?
We provide a simple plain coffin fitted with handles and name plate which is included in the price.
There are many other types of coffins and we have a wide range of styles and materials available. Look at our ‘Additional Options‘ Tab to see choices.
If the coffin required exceeds standard dimensions we will provide you with a quote.
When will the ashes be returned?
We will return ashes within 21 days of the cremation, but do let us know if you have planned a scattering sooner than this, as we will endeavour to return them to you for this date. You can either collect them from our office in Bembridge or East Cowes, or we can arrange delivery to an address on the Isle of Wight during office hours.
What will the ashes be returned in?
The ashes will be returned in a simple biodegradable urn which is included in our price, or can be put into a scatter tube of your choice for additional £25.00. Look at our ‘Additional Options‘ Tab to see choices. If your intention is to bury the ashes we can provide a light oak veneer ashes casket fitted with name plate for additional £85.00
Pre Paid Funeral Plans
Few people like to talk about death, or funerals, whether it’s our own or our loved ones’. A Golden Charter funeral plan can help make things easier for everyone – so that when the time comes, just one phone call to your funeral director is all that’s needed to activate your plan. Everything will then be taken care of, and carried out according to your wishes, helping to relieve your family of the stress and worry they may otherwise have to face.
